Fire & Burn Season Information
Burn season is typically October 1st - June 30th each year, weather depending, for all types of burning. Please be sure to check this website or call the office at (509) 427-3900 if you are unsure about current burning conditions.
Small Debris Burning:
Self Issue Small Debris burn permits are required for outdoor residential yard debris burning within Skamania County. These permits can be found above or at your local fire station and are only valid during that burn season. A new permit will need to be pulled each season. Burning conditions and restrictions are listed on the permit.
Recreational/Camp Fires do not need a permit within Skamania County but must meet the minimum standards for a fire pit.
Burn barrels are especially bad because the fires burn at low temperatures. They receive very little oxygen and produce a lot of smoke that contains toxic substances. What’s worse is that almost all of the pollutants released into the air are close to the ground where they are easily inhaled. Click the link above for more information about burn barrels.
The Department of Natural Resources regulates outdoor burning on all forestlands where DNR provides wildfire protection.

The Southwest Clean Air Agency (SWCAA) is responsible for enforcing federal, state and local outdoor air quality standards and regulations in Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis, Skamania and Wahkiakum counties of southwest Washington state.
